Artificial Intelligence: AI to Become Pervasive in All Aspects of Business and Everyday Lives

By Dick Weisinger

AI is beginning to touch all aspects of our lives.  From digital assistants like Alexa and Siri to automated interfaces and product recommendations.

John Roese, CTO of Dell Technologies, recently told attendees at a Dell Technology conference to “think about the difference of human experience where AI is present versus when it’s absent. A security camera without AI will tell you that someone has entered your house. A security camera with AI will tell you that your child has come home from school.”

Trends that Roese predicts will result from improved AI technology include:

1. User experiences will be richer. Human interactions with machines will grow closer as technologies like natural language processing, voice, visual sensing and predictive analytsis improve.

2. Businesses processes will reduce costs and imrpove efficiencies. Analytics and machine intelligence will help make processes better and improved by being different and smarter than previous processes.

3. Infrastructure will improve. Sensor-enabled infrastructure will enable close monitoring so that the performance of equipment and services can be optimized.

Roese predicts that demand for AI will increase investment and research in AI-focused hardware accelerators, and he see the AI hardware business growing from about $5 billion today to over $35 billion by 2021.
