Artificial Intelligence: Lack of Skills Prevents Many Companies from Adopting AI
Artificial Intelligence, analytics and machine learning all require training in order to be able to properly implement them. A recent report by EY found that the biggest challenge with these new technologies is that businesses don’t have enough people with the right skill sets to be able to support implementations.
- Two-thirds of professionals view AI as beneficial rather than as a threat
- More than half of professionals say that the biggest challenge businesses have in adopting AI is a shortage of staff members trained in AI
Chris Mazzei, EY Global Innovation, said that “businesses have been hampered by a shortage of experts with requisite knowledge of the technology. This serves to demonstrate that successful AI integration is not just about the technology, it’s about the people. Looking to 2018, organizations should prioritize talent acquisition and cultivation—both by recruiting individuals with strong technical backgrounds and investing in skills and training programs to help retain and foster leading AI practitioners.”
Further, Chris Mazzei said that “there is an acceptance that AI will change everything in 10 years’ time, but little appreciation of how it could, and should, impact businesses right now.”
