Big Data: Businesses See Benefits but Many are still on the Sidelines
A report from EMC finds that three-quarters of businesses agree that investing in technology is the right strategic way for their company to grow. Further, 79 percent went say that adoption of data analysis techniques based on Big Data would help their businesses make better decisions.
The following main benefits were cited by businesses from adopting Big Data solutions:
- Better Business Processes
- Innovating Products & Solutions
- Enhancing Customer Experience
But despite interest and the perceived benefits of the technology, about one-third of businesses say that they have no current plans to pursue Big Data projects.
Hélène Barnekow, senior vice-president at EMC, said that “it was surprising to see that one-third of businesses are not considering big data solutions – we expect this to change in the near-term as individuals and companies hear more about the transformative benefits that are achievable with big data analytics technology.”
Similarly, a survey by Hitachi Data Systems Corporation (HDS) found that Asia-Pacific-region businesses could increase their revenues by more than 25 percent if they could better utilize Big Data, but more than half of the companies of that region have not been able to implement any Big Data projects, primarily due to the inability to make investments in the technology.
