Cloud and SaaS: Leaping New Heights

By Dick Weisinger

The world of IT infrastructure is changing rapidly.  Both Cloud computing and SaaS technologies are rocketing in their adoption.  Despite the down economy, or maybe because of it, IDC predicts that SaaS will experience 42% growth compared to 2009.  The SaaS market is seeing strong growth world-wide and three-quarters of companies will be using SaaS by the end of the year.

In parallel with SaaS, IDC also says that 15 to 25 percent of companies are in the process of adopting cloud computing capabilities, and 25 to 45 percent of companies will have some amount of cloud computing capabilities in place within three years.  The uptake might even be faster, but some companies still express concerns around security  (76.4 % see as a concern) and performance (63.1 percent see as a concern).  Cloud services is expected to grow to $42 billion in three years.

Frank Gens, IDC’s senior vice president and chief analyst wrote “Can you imagine a developer of a hot new solution choosing not to deploy in a cloud/SaaS mode? Hard to imagine.”
