Cloud Computing: Acceptance Increases at a Rapid Clip
A survey by Network Instruments taken at the Las Vegas Interop 2011 convention found that companies are moving rapidly into the cloud. 61 percent of companies are already using cloud-based computing services and 30 percent of participants are using a SaaS service like Salesforce.com or Google apps, and 20 percent said that they had deployed Platform-as-a-Service products like Microsoft Azure.
Today roughly 21 percent of applications are running in the cloud, a bigger number than I would have guessed. And the report estimates that by next year this time that percentage will have grown to 38 percent.
The survey found that people cites the following benefits for things that they liked about cloud computing:
- 61 percent said that application availability improved
- 52 percent said that the end user experience improved
- 50 percent said that their ability to scale their applications improved
What people don’t like about cloud computing is that:
- 52 percent said that it was more difficult to monitor
- 60 percent said that it was more difficult to troubleshoot problems when applications are running in the cloud
