Cloud Computing and SaaS: Reasons Why So Many Businesses are Satisfied

By Dick Weisinger

While there are reasons to complain about SaaS-deployed software, like poor customer service and worries about security, the benefits appear to be out-weighing the negatives.  In fact, a recent survey by TechRepublic found that an overwhelming 91 percent of organizations using SaaS reported high satisfaction with the cloud-based technology (13.3 percent say that it exceeded their expectations and 78.6 percent say that it meets their expectations).

Forrester analyst Stephen Mann wrote that “the software-as-a-service delivery model can offer fast deployment speeds, low upfront costs, and ongoing flexibility to scale up or down as needs change. These benefits are universal, whether applied to customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), collaboration, or ITSM.”

Some of the benefits of the SaaS model include:

  • Low start-up subscription-pricing model
  • Hardware Infrastructure to support the application is not needed
  • Easier mobility and scalability
  • Reduced effort to maintain — no installation or upgrades
  • Fewer on-premise IT support personnel needed
  • Reduction of capital expenditures
  • Businesses can off-load infrastructure and focus on core competencies
