Cloud Computing: Businesses Need to Proactively Evaulate Cloud Vendors

By Dick Weisinger

As usage of cloud technology increasingly becomes the norm, the next step in the evolution is the coordinated use of multiple cloud vendors.  IDC says that the use of multiple cloud suppliers is already common, but businesses aren’t currently doing the due diligence to ensure that they’re making the right decisions when investing in the cloud.  IDC found that few companies do thorough investigations of vendors, by running benchmarks, comparing features, and forecasting costs.  Because the shape of the cloud market changes so rapidly and so frequently, it necessary for companies to regularly reevaluate what their options are and how their usage requirements are changing.

Michael Ceroici, research analyst at IDC, said that “while the perception of multi-cloud infrastructure as an end goal certainly resonates with organizations, there remains uncertainty over what a multi-cloud strategy looks like and how this strategy should be disseminated within an organization.”

Chintan Patel, Chief Technologist at Cisco UK, said that “in order to obtain the level of control in a multi-cloud environment, it is essential to have the cloud controls and technologies in place to allow businesses to get the protection and visibility they need. Businesses can no longer afford to be complacent when it comes to a multi-cloud security strategy. It’s time to keep the multi-cloud world safe.”
