Cloud Computing: Cloud Grew to $110 Billion in 2015, Becoming a MainStream Phenomenon
Cloud vendors took in a total of $110 billion globally from the 12-month period ending in September 2015, according to an estimate by Synergy Research. That’s 28 percent growth over the previous period. Public cloud revenues grew at 51 percent — with Amazon and Microsoft being big winners. Private and hybrid cloud revenues came in next, followed by SaaS and public cloud hardware sales.
Jeremy Duke, analyst at Synergy Research Group, said that “in many ways 2015 was the year when cloud became mainstream. Across a wide range of cloud applications and services we have seen that usage has now passed well beyond the early adopter phase and barriers to adoption continue to diminish.”
John Dinsdale, Synergy Research Group chief analyst, said that “Cloud technologies are now generating massive revenues and high growth rates that will continue long into the future.” Dinsdale told Datamation that “Cloud has now passed way beyond the early adopter phase and is truly a mainstream phenomenon… Cloud technologies are now generating massive revenues and high growth rates that will continue long into the future, making this an exciting time for IT vendors and service providers that focus on cloud.”
