Cloud Computing: Enterprise Increasingly Adopt Cloud but Cloud Management Complexity Begins to Sprawl
Enterprises believe in the cloud. They are increasing their investment and growing their cloud environments. Businesses see new technologies, particularly the cloud, as a way to drive their business forward. According to a survey by IDG, nearly three-quarters of organizations are using at least one cloud application or have moved some or all of their computing infrastructure to the cloud. By the end of next year, it is expected that 90 percent of organizations will be using the cloud.
But as the use of the cloud evolves for these companies, so does the complexity of their cloud environments. Hybrid cloud/on-prem solutions are fairly common, used by about 46 percent of organizations. But, expected to become even more common, is the use of multi-cloud and multiple cloud applications. Trying to keep a clear and consistent view of data becomes increasingly difficult.
Julie Ekstrom, senior vice president of IDG Communications, said that “IT organizations are being asked to improve the speed of IT service delivery and react to changing market conditions. Cloud solutions provide the flexibility to do just that. Organizations are relying on a mix of cloud delivery models to meet this need. However, it requires management of multiple vendors. As tech executives explore new areas of cloud investment, they examine their portfolio of cloud vendors to see what solutions can grow and what new vendors will work collaboratively with their existing portfolio for ease of adoption.”
