Cloud Computing: The Hero of the COVID-19 Pandemic
The global cloud computing market size is forecast to balloon to $761 billion by 2027, according to a report by Insights and Forecast. The analyst firm Canalys estimates that globally $107 billion was spent on cloud infrastructure in 2019, 37 percent more than in 2018.
The WFH (work from home) response by businesses to combat COVID-19 is playing a factor that may grow market size even more quickly than not too distant forecasts.
Cloud computing has become the hero in the midst of the pandemic. Our world today is decidedly different than that from a decade ago. If the pandemic would have hit then, our virtual alternatives would have been much more limited. Work from home for most people would not have been practical. Many more companies would have been forced to shut down and lay off staff.
Mark Samuels, Business Journalist, wrote that “in many ways, the coronavirus outbreak has been the impetus for the biggest ever beta test for a technology platform – and cloud computing has risen to the challenge. Executives that might have previously doubted the value of an investment in on-demand IT will have seen how cloud has supported remote working and will now be convinced of its strengths.”
