Cloud ERP: Businesses Ready to Move Mission Critical to the Cloud
70 percent of businesses say that the benefits of cloud computing are enticing them into considering a move of at least some of their mission-critical applications to the cloud within a year. This is happening despite nagging concerns these same businesses have about security, risk and loss of control issues that come along with cloud computing. ERP is high on the list of candidates companies are considering for moving into the cloud.
Simon Aspinall, Chief of Vertical Markets at Virtustream, said that “the end of 2014 will be a pivotal moment for the enterprise cloud. ERP and other mission-critical applications have mainly been deployed conventionally – the cuckoos in cloud land. The next 18 months will see these critical applications pushed out of their in-house data center nests and migrated to the cloud.”
The report from Virtustream found that 84 percent of businesses surveyed said that they’re using ERP. Of those, 55 percent of businesses were on SAP and 44 percent are using Oracle. The Virtustream report found that “SAP has made high profile moves to align itself with cloud providers, and its SAP HANA in the cloud offers much greater cost efficiencies and benefits. Oracle, however, is still rooted in its heritage licensing model that prevents the flexibility of the cloud subscription model.”
