Data Centers: Steady Growth of Hyperscale Data Centers

The scale up to massive data centers is a trend being called Hyperscale Data Centers. By the end of second quarter 2020 there were 541 hyperscale data centers. The definition of hyperscale is that there are more than 5000 servers in a space of 10,000 square feet, but these facilities will more typically have tens of thousands of servers. The centers ae operated by large primarily by cloud vendors, like Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Facebook.

From Synergy Research: Hyperscale Data Center Count

There ae 176 hyperscale data centers in the pipeline being built now.

John Dinsdale, chief analyst at Synergy Research Group, said that “the activity being driven in particular by continued strong growth in cloud services and social networking. There is no end in sight to the data center building boom.”
