Data Cleansing: Improved Decision Making and Streamlined Business

By Dick Weisinger

Businesses that collect data for analysis are plagued with problems related to data quality. A recent study by Infogroup on data analysis calls the problem “Data Pollution”. 90 percent of organizations that collect data called data quality one of their biggest problems.

Benefits of “clean data” include:

  • Removes inconsistencies in data
  • Improves decision making
  • Improves accuracy of reporting
  • Reduces data duplication and redundancy
  • Streamlines business practices

Michael Iaccarino, CEO of Infogroup, said that “firms are struggling to sift good data from bad and meaningful insights from white noise. Whether it’s gathering data, analyzing it, or acting on its insights, companies need to address these challenges if they want to thrive in the Age of Data.”
