ECM: Just How Many SharePoint User Seats are Out There?
There are a lot of SharePoint seats out in the wild. KMWorld estimates that the number of SharePoint user seats out there is on the order of 130 million, and a report by Global360.com estimates that 97 percent of organizations will ultimately use SharePoint (based on their survey of industry users familiar with SharePoint).
The report found that 67 percent of SharePoint implementations included Workflow to improve business processes and that 27 percent of implementations stored mission-critical documents in SharePoint.
But the high usage numbers didn’t translate totally into satisfied users. Actually, only 17.6 percent of users were satisfied with SharePoint, judging that the user experience was great and fully met their needs. 78 percent said that SharePoint was inadequate for their needs.
When asked to name the one most challenging issue with SharePoint, 30 percent of those responding said that despite Microsoft’s focus on developers that the SharePoint platform was hard to customize, requiring a lot of time and effort. 21 percent said that their most challenging problem had to do with the lack of user friendly screens that fully conveyed the details of their business process.
