ECM/SaaS: On-Demand ECM Open Up Workflow Barriers
12 percent of companies survey in 2007 are planning to adopt an on-demand content management application. Their reasons: on-demand applications are faster, cheaper, easier to deploy, ansd offer greater flexibility. That’s according to a survey from Nucleus Research and reported by Fiona Branton who’s been digging into what’s happening with ECM on-Demand in an Integrated Solutions whitepaper.
A big attraction of SaaS is that once documents are available on-Demand on the Internet, it is easy to share information with customers and suppliers too. Standard ECM functionality like roles-based security, check-in, checkout, and workflow routing are handled in the same way as with standard ECM, and in fact is much more powerful because the users are not restricted to be within the corporate infrastructure.
Workflows that involve organizations with multiple locations and with the need to exchange information with business partners are especially well suited for On-Demand ECM. For example, hospitals that need to exchange information with clinics, off-site doctor offices, insurance companies, and financial agencies are great candidates for on-Demand SaaS.
