Enterprise Software: Spending is at its Highest Levels Since 2007

By Dick Weisinger

Interest in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things have caused enterprises to open their purses to spend on these new technologies.  Overall, global IT spending will grow by 6 percent this year, reaching $3.7 trillion, but spending by enterprises on software is expected to grow by more than 11 percent in 2018, according to Gartner.

John-David Lovelock, research vice president at Gartner, said that “this is the highest annual growth rate that Gartner has forecast since 2007 and would be a sign of a new cycle of IT growth.”

Among groups within the IT sector, the slowest area will be in data center spending due to businesses increasingly shifting their operations to the cloud.
