ERP: Cloud and Mobile Features Entice Businesses into Migrating to Newer Systems
Many companies turn to ERP software to gain competitive advantage. “Competitive pressure is driving ERP adoption, as companies have to stay at the forefront of their peer group. If they fall too far behind, the ability to remain competitive becomes strained and the bottom line gets negatively impacted… Dramatic business benefits from ERP, which traditionally could have taken years to reflect, are more tangible much sooner and, therefore, are more easily justifiable,” said Kamal Ramsingh, Technology Leader at Deloitte.
A majority of businesses now say that ERP software is absolutely vital to their operations. But new technologies like mobile and cloud technologies are dramatically changing the way ERP systems are implemented and used.
Brian Sommer, CEO of TechVentive, said that “many major ERP buyers will start to move their old ERP vendors off the ‘strategic IT vendor’ list and replace them with the Workday, salesforce.com, Marketo, etc. vendors of the new era of cloud ERP solutions. These software buyers are tired of bad behavior, vendor indifference and old products. Given a choice, customers will look for true love elsewhere.”
A study sponsored by Netsuite found that the top reasons why businesses look towards moving their existing ERP software are as follows:
- Reducing IT costs and maintenance (36 percent)
- Moving to a more functional and cheaper alternative to the current solution (28 percent)
- Looking for a way to more flexibly access business information, particularly via mobile (25 percent)
- Streamline business processes (24 percent)
- Worry that their current solution can’t scale to handle finances associated with expected company growth (19 percent)
