Hybrid Low-Code: A Bridge Between Full-Code and Low-Code
Traditional software applications have been developed as ‘full-code’. A team consisting of developers and quality assurance develop a custom app. The process from design to completion typically takes months, even when agile development techniques are used.
The other development extreme is ‘no-code’. With no code, users are able to use a UI to ‘click and drag’ to configure and create new applications. No-code applications typically are very simple modifications or combinations of some common features offered by the no-code tool. Depending on the use case, no-code application development can be quite effective, but often it lacks the depth whenever any requirement lies even partially outside the realm of what the no-code toolkit was designed to handle.
More recently, ‘low-code’ environments are becoming popular. Often these are no-code like tools with the added capability of being able to enhance functionality via light scripting. While low-code is significantly more flexible than no-code, like ‘no-code’, it has limits in what it can do.
Now some developments tools are introducing hybrid development environments. A full-blown IDE development toolkit can offer extension tools that offer low- or no-code capabilities, but if needed, developers can always be called on to fill in or fix whatever gaps are remaining.

It can be frustrating to leave a low-code IDE to finish the app in another IDE, and then have to connect the different elements into one cohesive app. As you can see, efficiency is reduced every time a developer leaves one IDE for another. Hybrid low-code views low-code as a tool inside a bigger development toolbox. It is there when convenient, but a developer isn’t forced to use just low-code.”
