Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT): Manufacturers Grow the Scope of their Deployed IoT Networks
Internet of Things is being widely and quickly adopted. A recent survey by ON World found that more than one third of Industrial Internet of Things have more than 1000 nodes. Roughly 12 percent of IIoT deployments have more than 1000 nodes at a single site.
By 2025, the ON World report predicts that Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) technology will make up about one quarter of all connections. The advantages of LPWA technologies include the use of low power and the ability to transfer large amounts of data over very long distances. LPWA is more efficient that mobile networks and can support many devices over a wide area.
Aru Bala, president of manufacturer Stanley Black & Decker, said that “we have reached an inflection point where IoT is starting to accelerate to commercial mass-scaling from the proof-of-concept experimentation stage. It’s imperative for organisations to have a coherent IoT deployment strategy and not to be left out in this digital transformation arena.”
