Innovation: Do Security Restrictions Impede Innovation
IDC has recently come out with a report developed in conjunction with RSA. The report conclusion was that security restrictions are stifling business innovation.
87 percent said that creating an environment that fostered innovation was important.
But 80 percent of companies responded that security is the problem.
“The inextricable link between security and innovation is clear, but organizations are still really struggling with how to strike the right balance between driving new innovations to market and instituting effective IT security practices,” said RSA President Art Coviello. “Security has long been a global business issue and this research tells us it is a top priority for today’s senior management teams. There has never been a better time for companies to make the cultural, philosophical and technological shifts required to better align their security and business innovation strategies.”
It seems a little hard to believe that good security measures are being that much of an inhibitor of innovation. Maybe it’s more of an excuse as to why more innovation isn’t happening. It wouldn’t seem that creativity and security would have much territory of intersection.
