Internet of Things (IoT): Developers Gear Up for Work on Internet of Things
The Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to be big. Price Cooper Waterhouse estimates the size of the IoT market by 2020 to reach $1 trillion.
The developer community is beginning to arrive at the door of the Internet of Things. A research report by Evans Data reports that already as many as 17 percent of software developers have begun work on projects that can be categorized as related to the Internet of Things. And another 23 percent are planning to begin work within the next six months.
This new wave of development is looking to address security and surveillance products, embedded car electronics, environmental sensors, smart lighting, and office automation.
Janel Garvin, CEO of Evans Data Corp, said that “we’re still in the early stages of development for Internet of Things, even though forward thinking companies like Cisco and IBM have been promoting and enabling development for an interconnected world for the last several years. The needed technologies are now converging with Cloud, Big Data, embedded systems, real-time event processing, even cognitive computing combining to change the face of the technological landscape we live in, and developers are leading the way.”
The Evans report finds a peak in developer interest is coming out of the Asia-Pacific region, which isn’t too surprising given that that’s the center for producing the bulk of the world’s electronic devices.
