Internet of Things (IoT): Future of Mobile to be Intertwined with IoT Connections
Iot and mobile are on track to become intertwined technologies says Thomas Husson of Forrester. Despite predictions that the proliferation of IoT devices, like wearables and smart gadgets everywhere, will soon replace our mobile smartphones, that’s scenario won’t happen anytime soon. Husson sees smartphones as the portal through which we will be interacting with Consumer IoT devices. Forrester analyst Julie A. Ask said that “Mobile itself will become the brain behind the next revolution in mobility as it powers and orchestrates a multidevice, blended user ecosystem.”
Thomas Husson, Forrester analyst, said that “it is time to stop this quixotic quest for a paradigmatic new platform to replace mobile. Instead, recognize that mobile will activate these adjacent technologies to enable new brand experiences. Reports of IoT killing mobile are greatly exaggerated, if not completely inaccurate. Echoing the traditional proclamation of ‘The King is dead; long live The King!’ I can confirm that mobile is here to stay.”
The Forrester report finds that “to deliver IoT-powered experiences, marketers will have to act on data, keep control of the customer relationship, move from products to experiences, and elevate privacy and security to a business imperative. Lights will turn on and your preferred music will play automatically based on your mood and context — forcing marketers to design blended ecosystem experiences and tell stories without even using a screen.”
