Low Code Development: Enables Custom Application Development with a Lower Risk Profile
Low-code software development platforms are frameworks where the application logic and interface is constructed and configured quickly, often by drag-and-drop interfaces. The software tries to adopt to business processes, rather than forcing the business to adopt to the way legacy software was developed. A recent survey found that 80 percent of businesses said that they’ve needed to modify their way of working to match their enterprise software.
Forrester defines these rapid development environments as, “platforms that enable rapid delivery of business applications with a minimum of hand-coding and minimal upfront investment in setup, training, and deployment.”
The core motivations for using low-code software development tools include:

- Better control over application development customization and control
John Rymer, Vice president and principal analyst at Forrester, said that “the main reason cloud computing is growing so fast is that people are looking for much more modern and much more flexible software and they’re looking to deliver that software faster than they have in the past. Low-code plays into that. With low-code and cloud, custom development is much less risky than it once was. You can tackle custom applications, and deliver them at a much lower risk profile and much faster than you could in the heydays of Java, .NET, and C#.”
