Social Media: Business Marketing Embraces Social

By Dick Weisinger

Small and Medium-sized companies are and have embraced Social Media for their marketing efforts in a big way.  That comes as no big surprise since Social Media provides an inexpensive way to really amplify the voice of the company.  In a survey by MoreVisability, 85 percent of companies questions had at least tried creating a Social Media marketing campaign.  Of those that have a plan, 75 percent say that they’re planning on expanding their campaign.  Of those who haven’t tried it yet, 80 percent are considering to.   And, of those who haven’t tried it and aren’t planning to, 40 percent said they don’t understand it and another 20 percent responded that they have no budget for it.

96 percent of businesses using Social Media use FaceBook, 98 percent use Twitter, and 74 percent are using LinkedIn/

The makeup of the survey audience is as follows:

  • 65% – 25 or fewer employees
  • 15% – 26-100 employees
  • 10.5% 101-999 employees
  • 8% – > 1000 employees

There’s very little barrier for these companies to start using Social Media.  73 percent of them are spending less than $5000 on their efforts.

MoreVisibility President Andrew Wetzler said “This data underscores that with virtually no barriers to entry, social media is a highly cost-effective marketing model for any size firm.  You don’t have to spend a great deal of money, but you have to be very efficient and understand how to utilize these invaluable tools to generate revenue.”
