Supply Chain Governance: Improving Privacy and Data Security

By Dick Weisinger

Supply Chain Governance refers to the oversight of the supply chain for a business. It involves managing suppliers and the quality of their product and services, tracking shipments, and also managing contracts with suppliers, conducting due diligence, and ensuring data security.

Gartner predicts that supply chain governance will be an area that is impacted by technology trends in 2020, like AI, Edge Computing and 5G Networks.

Christian Titze, Vice President Analyst at Gartner, said that “we anticipate a wave of new solutions to emerge for supply chain security and governance, especially in the fields of privacy as well as cyber and data security. Think advanced track-and-trace solutions, smart packaging, and next-gen RFID and NFC capabilities.”

Titze said that “the vast majority of organisations have a cautious approach to adopting supply chain applications and technologies. Only 21% are willing to consider, and often adopt, early-stage technologies. However, even cautious supply chain leaders must keep an open mind and embrace long-term perpetual change.”
