Technology: Gartner's List of Ten

By Dick Weisinger

Gartner has come out with their list of top 10 compelling and strategic technologies. I’m disappointed that the list this year doesn’t have as many ECM-centric items as last year’s BPM, “Enterprise Information Management”, and “Information Access”.

2005 2006 2007
Virtualization Open Source Green IT
Grid Computing Virtualization Unified Communications
Service-Oriented Business Applications Service Registries and Repositories Business Process Modeling
Pervasive Computing Business Process Management Suites Metadata Management
OLED/LEP technologies Enterprise Information Management Virtualization 2.0
Location-aware services Ubiquitous Computing Mashups and Composite Apps
Linux Information Access Web Platform and WOA
Desktop Search Tools Web 2.0 — AJAX rich clients Fabric
MicroCommerce Web 2.0 — Mashup Composite Model Real World Web
Instant Messaging Communities and Collective Intelligence Social Software

But the list this year still has ECM components like BPM and “Metadata Management”.
