Telework: Two-thirds Say that There’s No Going Back

By Dick Weisinger

Remote work has become the new normal. 451 Research found that 80 percent of companies have implemented or expanded their ability for workers to work remotely. Roughly two-third of companies say that they expect that some of those policies will remain in place once we are fully past the COVID-19 pandemic. Two-thirds of workers shifted to remote work during the pandemic say that they don’t want to return, according to a survey by Flexjobs.

Matthew Guarini, Forrester Vice President, said that once the pandemic is over that organizations will have on average three times the number of remote workers compared to pre-pandemic. Virtual and collaboration tools will become increasingly important to support the work of a widely dispersed staff. “The CIOs that get the employee experience right will become beacons.”

Darren Murph, the head of remote for GitLab, said that “for many, transitioning to remote work is really challenging because they didn’t choose it, and in large part their company wasn’t ready for it. Now people are getting better at it, so my hope is that it becomes much more second nature in the year ahead.”

Vishal Punwani, CEO of Sophya, said that “things aren’t just going to go back to normal. The companies that will do well are the ones that figure that out early.”
