However, large file sizes and proprietary formats often lock out non-technical stakeholders — preventing them from viewing models or inspecting critical project information without a dedicated Revit environment.

Enter the Formtek BIM Transform Engine. As the latest addition to the Formtek Engineering Data Management Solution for Alfresco, it extends the capabilities of our proven Formtek CAD Transform Engine from CAD/IFC to complex Revit files. By processing native Revit formats directly, it automatically renders browser-compatible visual previews and extracts critical project metadata during ingestion, making BIM data accessible to your entire organization without requiring specialized desktop software.

Key Features

• Browser-Based Viewing — Each Revit file is converted into a thumbnail image and a multi-page PDF preview that pairs the active view with a 2D top-down view of the 3D model, providing team members instant model visibility directly from the browser.
• Deep Content Search — Revit model text is automatically extracted and indexed upon upload. Files that were once discoverable only by filename are now searchable by their internal content, making specific project details easy to locate instantly.
• Centralized Project Data — Key project details — including name, number, client, address, issue date, and status — can be automatically mapped to your existing Alfresco content model properties, enabling seamless automation via repository rules.

Get More with the Formtek EDM Module

While the Transform Engine handles the heavy lifting of conversion and extraction, the Formtek EDM Module 4.3.1 provides the user interface that ties it all together. The Download 3D PDF action generates an interactive 3D PDF that stakeholders can view, rotate, and analyze using Adobe Acrobat Reader and other compatible 3D PDF viewers, making complex BIM data portable and shareable anywhere.
