Security: Companies Raise Priority on Security
As companies adopt or consider adopting new technologies like cloud computing, mobile/remote access, and social media, security is becoming a top priority. CompTIA‘s 2010 Global Security Trends survey found that 63 percent of companies experienced at least one security breach last year, and half of those breaches were classified as serious and creating either a financial threat or damage to the reputation of the organization.
49 percent of organizations now consider security as one of their top IT priorities, up from 35 percent in 2008. CompTIA is forecasting that new technologies are going to force that number to rise as high as 62 percent by 2012.
- 59 percent think that security breaches are typically caused by lapses of human judgement and that 41 percent thought that security holes in software were the cause.
- 34 percent feel that pressures from a weak economy may lead employees to inappropriately use employer data available to them, like customer lists or intellectual property.
- Only 55 percent or organizations have a written IT security policy.
- Security concerns are making items like firewalls, security infrastructure hardware and security software popular items to purchase.
