Alfresco is one of the top twenty Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) companies to watch in 2008. So says Linux Magazine. Only software that complies with FOSS and that has made a significant contribution to the Open Source community in 2007 was considered for the list.

Alfresco has received a lot of attention lately because of their integration with the Facebook social community. Alfresco is the first enterprise application that has been created for Facebook. The Alfresco integration can provide repository infrastructure for Facebook content-centric applications, enabling a controlled and effective mechanism for publishing content. The Alfresco integration retains the simplicity of operation of the Facebook interface while enabling collaboration and the secure, audited sharing of content.

Linux editors cited a main reason that Alfresco was selected for their list was because it was an excellent alternative for companies looking for a document, records or content management solution without the lock-in to the Windows franchise that Microsoft Sharepoint requires.
