EMC: Banner Year for Alfresco
Open Source ECM Alfresco just closed its books on fiscal year 2007, and its been a year of milestones for the company that included:
- The one millionth download
- More than 45,000 registered community members
- Customer bookings growing by 320% to now more than 400 enterprise accounts
- More than 30,000 active Alfresco deployments
- Received more than $9 million venture financing from SAP ventures
Alfresco is now used by five of the top ten investment houses and by many government organizations globally. In a review of Alfresco product in Q4 2007, Forrester Research described the reasons that set Open Source Alfresco apart from many of its proprietary competitors:
“Embracing Web 2.0 tools, using representational state transfer (REST), together with tackling document management, imaging, content archiving, records management and Web content management (WCM), make Alfresco a real ECM suites contender.”
One of the big announcements in 2007 was Alfresco Web Content Management. Later in 2008, Alfresco will be releasing Alfresco Dynamic Website (ADW). It is a framework for creating websites that is based on best practices learned from enterprise and community member users. It makes it much easier for companies to get started with WCM. ADW will sit on top of Alfresco WCM and let users cireate websites quickly with high-level point-and-click and drag-and-drop capabilities.
2007 was a banner year for Alfresco and it looks like 2008 is already looking interesting for Alfresco and Alfresco implementation partners like Formtek.
