Document Management: Arguments for Cost Savings

By Dick Weisinger

In these times of lean budgets and frugal spending, companies are looking for ways to increase productivity and save money.  Document and Content management is one area that large companies have known about and used for years to streamline their businesses.
Such systems were often too expensive for many smaller companies to consider implementing, but that is beginning to change.  Small and medium sized companies now are exploring how DM/CM solutions can help them.

Document Management ROI can be observed in the following ways:

  • Electronic documents are space efficient.  Paper documents need to be stored and manually filed.
  • Finding information is significant faster when all documents are centrally located and can be electronically searched.  Finding information contained in an electronic document can be done in orders of magnitude faster compared to paper-based systems
  • Electronic documents makes sharing and collaboration easier and more efficient
  • Corporate knowledge can be more easily controlled and made available, as needed, to anyone in the organization
  • Quicker access to information enables quicker decision making
  • Information can be transmitted more easily, saving money on courier and dispatch services
