Big Data: Accenture Finds Big Companies Benefit Most From Big Data

A recent study by Accenture presents a rosy picture on the success and benefits of Big Data.  Their survey looked at businesses that have implemented Big Data projects in order to assess their impressions on the technology.  92 percent of those surveyed say that they are fully satisfied with the business outcomes derived by using Big Data and 94 percent said that their Big Data implementation did what they expected it to do.

Those businesses using Big Data ranked what they felt were the biggest benefits of the technology.  Benefits include:

  • 89 percent.  Helps the business to transform into digital
  • 54 percent.  Enables the identification of new sources of revenue
  • 50 percent.  Enables new product and service development

Challenges identified for Big Data include:

  • 51 percent. Security
  • 47 percent. Budget
  • 41 percent. Talent
  • 35 percent.  Technology Integration

The Accenture report also found that bigger companies tended to reap the most benefits from Big Data.  This is because:

  • Big companies could better view the whole context of Big Data
  • Big companies were more focused on practical applications
  • Big companies had a bigger budget and were able to identify more talent to direct to Big Data
  • Big companies could better understand the disruptive power of Big Data
