By Dick Weisinger

Rapid advances in data analysis and analytics are having a big impact on defining what the capabilities of Business Intelligence (BI). BI products from megavendors that have historically dominated the field are being out-done by smaller niche players in the Business Intelligence market.  Niche players are growing at double-digit rates.

Despite strong interest in BI, Investments in BI actually declined 4.13% in 2015 according to a Gartner report.  Gartner predicts that in the next two years that technologies like Hadoop/Big Data and next-generation discovery and analytics tools will become standard features of business intelligence tools, and within four years 80 percent of all enterprise reporting will utilize business intelligence and analytics.

Viveca Woods, former Gartner consultant, said that “Business intelligence and analytics is a top organizational priority, as data allows smart companies to quickly assess market conditions and outperform competitors. However by 2020, only 50 percent of chief analytics officers will have successfully created a narrative to respond to rapid change and link financial objectives to BI&A initiatives and investments. ”
