Cloud Computing and Big Data: Powerful Components for Data Analytics
Big Data and Cloud Computing are two technologies that are on converging paths. And the combination of the two technologies are proving powerful when used to perform analytics.
Dr. Thomas Cynkin, VP and GM of Fujitsu Washington office, said that businesses are increasingly accumulating “a wide variety and a massive amount of data, data collected from areas as diverse as the human body, automobiles, video, internet services. The data is being used for analysis of customer behavior, community energy management systems, building energy management systems, and information analysis in smart cities… By using a cloud platform and mobile technologies, big data analysis can provide meaningful real-time results that give businesses further insights into their actual operations.”
But cloud computing and big data analytics are still evolving. And correspondingly, businesses are still experimenting to find solutions that can meet their needs. For example, a survey by CloudMeter found many businesses aren’t satisfied with their existing analytics solutions:
- 68 percent say they’re not able to capture critical data with their current data capture solutions
- 75 percent say they’re not able to do real-time capture and analysis with their current solution
- 84 percent say that their current solution requires significant customizations in order to meet their requirements
- 73 percent say that their current solution doesn’t work with the cloud or is difficult to use from the cloud
