Cloud Computing: IDC Predicts the Global Public Cloud will Generate $70 Billion in 2015
The global public cloud computing market will top $70 billion in 2015, predicts IDC in a recent report.
The following are the top five vertical applications for cloud computing and account for 45 percent of cloud computing spending:
- Discrete Manufacturing
- Banking
- Professional Services
- Process Manufacturing
- Retail
Eileen Smith, program manager at IDC, said that “the technological innovations and enabling capabilities unleashed by cloud have fostered new opportunities across the industries. As a result, it is necessary for both technology vendors and buyers to recognise the industry drivers and barriers of cloud deployment, to understand the business transformation brought by cloud, and to act upon the changes that will shape business and technology strategy in the coming years.”
Other findings from the IDC report include:
- Intelligent Industry Solutions built from the cloud, big data, analytics, mobile and social provide a major opportunity for cloud vendors to tap into
- Increasingly cloud-based vertical solutions are purchased from business lines like marketing, finance and operations
- The financial services industry remains particularly concerned about security and regulatory compliance cloud computing issues, and in general, enterprise IT groups worry about their loss of control over physicals assets and legacy systems.
