Cloud Computing: IT Leaders still Question the Security
Do you trust you corporate data residing in the cloud? The advantages of doing so are certainly main, and they include lower costs and easier accessibility. But IT decision makers continue to question whether cloud computing is safe enough to take on. Reading through the terms of Amazon EC2/S3 computing, one may wonder if the benefits of the clouds are indeed overblown.
Based on this, there’s really no guarantee from Amazon on the safety of your data. They’re protected, but are you?
In a survey made by the ISACA entitled 2010 ISACA IT Risk/Reward Barometer, IT managers were asked what their comfort level is with cloud computing. Only 17 percent said that the benefits outweigh the risks. And 45 percent said that the risks are too great.
It’s interesting how these numbers can be spun. NetworkWorld for example says that the numbers show that even in the super risk-adverse world of IT already “one in five of cloud users thinks that the risks of cloud computing outweigh the benefits”. While most other reports, like ChannelWeb, took the pessimistic viewpoint: “Despite the hype, nearly half of IT professionals in the U.S. say the risk of cloud computing eclipses the perceived benefits…” It does seem that the battle is just beginning.
