Data Management: Discontent Leads to Plans for Migration

By Dick Weisinger

Businesses aren’t satisfied with their current data management solutions.

Irfan Khan, Vice President and Chief Technology of SAP’s Sybase, recently reported results of a survey of IT groups from enterprises with more than 15,000 workers conducted on their behalf by IDG.

The survey revealed high levels of discontent with current data management solutions:

  • 56 percent say they’re having problems managing costs and efficiencies in a complex infrastructure
  • 46 percent aren’t happy with the real-time access and analysis capabilities of their system
  • 41 percent say they’re struggling to support growing mobile access to their system
  • 20 percent say that their current solution isn’t capable of supporting big data

As a result, nearly half (49 percent) say that they expect to change their current data management approach over the next two years.
