Digital Business: Is Your Business a Digital Leader, or a Dreamer or a Dabbler?
IT, business and marketing leaders virtually unanimously say that digital business has great benefits, according to a survey by Gartner. But taking the leap from a ‘planner’ to a ‘doer’ is hard.
Business leaders say that the two biggest challenges that they have with digital business are managing security and coming to grips with huge amounts of data being collected.
Gartner identifies four tiers based of businesses based on their level of expertise relative to digital business and has advice for each of those tiers:
- Digital Luddites – Worry! Your competitors are using new technologies like IoT and analytics that may steal your existing customers.
- Digital Dreamers – Businesses that want to go digital and have plans in the works, now is a good time to jump in. When getting started it may be good to mimic others that have been successful.
- Digital Dabblers – You’ve done some work with digital, but don’t stop now. You need to be able to sustain the work that you’ve done and, to make it all worth the effort, to turn your digital insights into actions and revenues.
- Digital Leaders – Congratulations! But don’t stop now!
