Disruption: Five Technologies that Top the List

By Dick Weisinger

The current list of top five disruptive technologies, reported by KPGM from a 2014 survey of business leaders is as follows:

  • 3D Printing
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Biotech/Healthcare IT
  • Cloud
  • Mobile

Cloud and Mobile dominate the 2013 KPGM list of disruptive technologies.  This year 3D printing, IoT, and Biotech/Healthcare IT showed significant gains.  Other technologies included lower down on the list of disruptive technologies include data and analytics, crypto currencies, autotech and artificial intelligence.

Gary Matuszak, global chairman of technology at KPMG , said that “the rapid rise of this portfolio of technologies is driven by several factors, ranging from macro-economic opportunities to local incentives and a growing global tech innovation engine that is creating more rapid widespread disruption.”

Tudor Aw, KPMG’s UK head of technology, said that “there is so much room for technology to drive growth and enable change…  The sectors and the businesses that will enjoy greatest success will be those prepared to take a chance on something new. That’s not to say they should gamble on the next ‘big thing’ – but they shouldn’t be afraid to try.”
