IT Spending: CIOs Focus on Big Data for Offense and Security for Defense
CIOs today are focused on two things: Big Data and analytics. Investments are strong in both of these areas. Security for defense, to defend against risks to the business, and big data and analytics for offense, to grow the business with innovation.
A report by ESG Global found that 63 percent of organizations are spending more on Business Intelligence (BI), analytics and Big Data solutions. The only spending area for CIOs that has a higher priority is security. The report found that one third think that big data will continue to drive their spending into IT 2017. The only complicating fact is that more than one-third of businesses still lack the right skills for managing big data and analytics.
A Gartner report agrees with the assessment and found in their own survey that 39 percent of businesses say that Business Intelligence and analytics IT spending top their priorities. Gartner also found that IT businesses spend $75 billion on security in 2015.
