The most popular and comprehensive Open Source ECM platform

Convergence of new technologies. IDC calls it the ‘Third Platform’. Gartner refers to the “Nexus of Forces“. Forrester talks about the Mobile Mind Shift. Yet another term or buzzword, and one that is used frequently by CapGemini, is SMAC — short for Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud.
SMAC is a description for how many businesses are implementing technology strategies around Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud. These new technologies are bringing higher business productivity and better engagement with customers. By one estimate, SMAC will account for $5 trillion of IT customer spending. Cognizant calls SMAC the formula for the ‘future of work’.
A CapGemini report found that “SMAC technologies are redefining enterprise IT and will remain the driving force of enterprise level IT for decades to come. The combined technologies of the SMAC stack erase geographical barriers, cut costs, and enhance the operations of any given business. SMAC technologies are transforming companies today, while simultaneously preparing them for the business challenges of tomorrow.”
Theresa Payton, former White House CIO, said that “each element of SMAC will and is having an impact on corporate data centers…. There is less daily operations and maintenance required when using a valid cloud provider or infrastructure provider.”
Adopting new technologies though is not always easy. For example, Lois Coatney, partner with Information Services Group (ISG), said that “integrating SMAC technologies increases the number of providers involved in the service delivery chain. Moreover, the new providers are delivering new technologies and have different business models, and this further complicates matter. So it’s not just a matter of bringing more providers into the mix. It’s bringing in a new set of players who do things differently.”
