Technology: The Cloud to Rain on Healthcare and Financial Services
Gartner analysts Mark Stahlman and Michael McGuire are predicting that both Healthcare and Financial Services are ripe to be flattened by the internet. The media industry has already been dramatically reshaped by the power of the internet. And now other industries have moved to be next in line.
Healthcare is notoriously inefficient in the handling of paperwork and records. The movement is already underway towards creating electronic personal health records that exist in the cloud. The internet will soon allow people greater access to doctors and specialists located anywhere and anytime. Online tools will empower people to assist with the prevention and monitoring of disease.
While the financial industry may not be as much of a dinosaur as healthcare, Gartner still predicts huge changes for that industry too. Advisory fees will drop and people will much more easily be able to take control of their finances. People are also more distrustful of investment institutions after the demise of so many huge investment companies during the financial meltdown.
