Baltimore Gas & Electric
Headquartered in Baltimore, BGE is Maryland’s largest natural gas and electric utility, delivering power to more than 1.25 million electric customers and more than 650,000 natural gas customers in central Maryland. BGE is a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation, the nation’s leading competitive energy supplier.
Formtek began working with BGE in order to assist with the implementation of an Engineering Document Management System (EDMS). The resulting integrated EDMS facilitates storage, retrieval, modification, version control, and distribution of engineering information throughout the company. EDMS integrates the BGE AutoCAD design system, supports collaborative review and approval processes for substation and transmission system drawings, and provides access to related information such as technical specifications and vendor product information, to facilitate the decision making process.
Bravo Wellness
Since 2008, Bravo Wellness has helped hundreds of organizations turn their complicated wellness initiatives into simple, trusted solutions. Bravo provides deep, regulatory expertise and flexible, technologically enhanced services that achieve unprecedented health improvement and cost savings in employer populations.
Bravo contracted with Formtek to build a capture solution to process handwritten data on incoming wellness forms. Formtek provided Bravo with a solution based on Ephesoft Intelligent Capture software. Electronic wellness forms enter the solution, and handwritten values for various vital statistics are extracted. Custom code formats the extracted values as necessary. After validation in the Ephesoft UI, more custom code exports the form and extracted metadata to Bravo’s proprietary system. Prior to the Formtek solution, reviewing a single wellness form and manually entering the vital statistics into the proprietary system could take as long as 7 minutes per form. After implementing the solution, the validation cycle dropped to as low as 60 seconds per form.
California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM)
CIRM, California’s stem cell institute, funds stem cell research at institutions and companies throughout California (as well as institutions and companies outside of the state that conduct a portion of their research in California) with the goal of accelerating treatments to patients with unmet medical needs.
Formtek has completed a series of contracts to enhance the implementation of Alfresco One at the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). The initial contract included the migration of documents, users and groups from Xerox DocuShare to Alfresco One. This was followed by a second award to customize and configure the migrated system to meet CIRM’s Records Managements requirements. The customization included implementing intelligent filing rules and automatically creating disposition schedules for new categories of records.
Grenada Electricity Services
Since 1960, Grenada Electricity Services Ltd. (Grenlec) has been providing integrated services of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity to more than 40,000 customers in the state of Grenada, comprised of the islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
Grenlec selected Formtek to provide a solution to enhance the experience of customers requesting service or changing an existing service. The Formtek solution automates the process of capturing, storing and managing customer related documents and their associated metadata. It uses Ephesoft for capture, seamlessly transferring the documents and metadata to an Alfresco repository via CMIS, where a workflow approval process is initiated to review and approve the customer application. Custom rules are used to standardize document naming and filing for easy reference.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)
In the world of science, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) is synonymous with “excellence”. Berkeley Lab is a member of the national laboratory system supported by the U.S. Department of Energy through its Office of Science. It is managed by the University of California (UC) and is charged with conducting unclassified research across a wide range of scientific disciplines.
Formtek provides Alfresco professional services to Berkeley Lab under a three year subcontract from the University of California. Formtek services are in support of Berkeley Lab’s implementation of Alfresco One and Alfresco Records Management, and include technical architecture and design, business process analysis, software configuration, software development, quality assurance testing, project management, training, and operations support.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company (LMAC) is known for building the finest military aircraft in the world. LMAC products play an important role in the national security of the United States and more than 70 other countries, and their workforce of more than 25,000 has pre-eminent expertise in advanced aircraft design and production, modification and support, stealth technology and systems integration.
Generating, storing, managing, releasing and distributing the complex information associated with a fighter jet or transport aircraft represents one of the largest information management challenges in the aerospace and defense industry. To meet these challenges, LMAC partnered with Formtek to implement engineering data management solutions that provide thousands of geographically dispersed enterprise users with the ability to easily store, access, collaborate, distribute and manage all types of information. In addition, Formtek provided a structured workflow solution for electronically managing the engineering change request process.
NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a unique national research facility, managed for NASA by Caltech, that carries out robotic space and Earth science missions. The JPL Electronic Library Service (ELS) manages mission critical program information with a legacy ECM software tool called DocuShare. The JPL ELS is comprised of approximately four hundred (400) libraries distributed amongst eleven (11) DocuShare instances, and manages five million files and approximately twenty (20) terabytes of data.
JPL subcontracted with Formtek for information technology consulting services to assist the ELS team with the migration, over time, of all of the data from the legacy DocuShare systems to a new system based on Alfresco Content Services (ACS). Formtek services include the analysis of the existing DocuShare systems, the migration requirements to Alfresco Content Services, migration design and development, technical support, and follow-on consulting assistance to JPL for further migration effort.
New York City Department of Transportation
The New York City Department of Transportation is the agency of the government of New York City responsible for the management of much of New York City’s transportation infrastructure. Over 5,000 employees of the New York City Department of Transportation oversee one of the most complex urban transportation networks in the world.
NYC DOT contracted with Formtek to implement an engineering document and data management solution based on Alfresco and the Formtek engineering data management solution for Alfresco. The system was required by Bridges Engineering Review and Support Bureau (ERS) to manage engineering data from many sources, including Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil3D, Bentley MicroStation, AutoTurn, ESRI ArcInfo, other civil engineering applications, as well as documents stored and shared on network drives, removable media, paper, and local computers. This division maintains over 1,200,000 documents, drawings, images, and other artifacts.
Steel Warehouse
Since 1947, Steel Warehouse has provided production-ready steel to metal stampers, fabricators and manufacturers. Steel Warehouse responds effectively to customers’ programmed and spot buy requirements with a depth and breadth of inventory, averaging over 100,000 tons on a daily basis.
Formtek was selected to provide a solution to improve the process for managing documents associated with Steel Warehouse’s inventory from purchase order through order acknowledgement and certifications from client mills. The solution uses Ephesoft to capture order acknowledgements and mill certifications, seamlessly transferring the documents and metadata to an Alfresco repository via CMIS. Custom rules standardize the document name and a custom content model allows easy retrieval of all document types.
